Preamble
Remembering that salvation is the gift of God’s mercy and that Christ has made us one people, we receive these promises as a way of naming the shared life to which he calls his church. We depend on the Spirit’s grace, not our own strength, as we seek to love God and one another before a watching world.
Guard the bond of peace
We will work and pray to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace, pursuing reconciliation with patience and truth.
Ephesians 4:1–3Watch over one another
We will walk together in Christian love and care, encouraging one another and speaking the truth with gentleness.
Hebrews 3:12–13; 10:24–25Gather faithfully
We will gather regularly in Christian community, receiving the Lord’s Day as a gift and stirring one another toward love and good works.
Hebrews 10:19–25Disciple those in our care
We will point those entrusted to us toward Christ through prayer, instruction, ordinary faithfulness, and a loving example.
Deuteronomy 6:4–9; Ephesians 6:4Rejoice and bear burdens
We will enter one another’s joys and sorrows, rejoicing without envy and carrying practical burdens with compassion.
Romans 12:15; Galatians 6:2Walk in holiness
We will repent of sin and pursue holy lives, remembering that we belong to the Son of God who gave himself for us.
Romans 8:12–13; Titus 2:11–14Practice generous partnership
We will give ourselves, our gifts, and our resources cheerfully to the care of the body and the spread of the gospel.
Romans 12:1–8; 2 Corinthians 8:1–9Remain faithfully present
We will belong to Christ’s people with committed love, and if we move, we will seek another faithful church without delay.
